Convert your Home Movies & Photos to Digital with The Digitize Center

Do you have a box of old home movies and photos collecting dust at home, such as VHS tapes, film, and old photos? These precious memories have a lifespan and if not digitized, can eventually degrade and fade away. Converting these precious memories to a digital format is the only way to make sure these moments can be preserved. Many people are unaware that these old formats degrade in quality over time and only have a limited lifespan if not digitized.

Why Digitize your Home Movies & Photos?

There are many reasons to digitize your family memories, with the most common being:

  1. Preserving the contents before they degrade over time.
  2. Being able to share these memories with family and friends, especially as a gift.
  3. To utilize advances in technology to get the best quality from your memories before they degrade further.
  4. To simply be able to watch, view, and enjoy your history.

Whatever your reasons for considering digitizing your home movies and photos, the important thing to remember is the sooner the better. Fortunately, with advances in technology pioneered by our development team, your memories can be digitized to a stunning quality even if its in poor condition.

What can be Digitized?

Nearly all old formats can be digitized by us to a high-quality, including:

  • Video Tapes: VHS, VHS-C, 8mm, Hi8, Digital 8, MiniDV, and Betamax
  • Film: 8mm, Super 8, and 16mm
  • Photos: Prints, Slides, Negatives, & Documents
  • Audio: Cassettes, CDs, and reel-to-reel
  • Discs: CDs, DVDs, & Mini-DVDs
  • And more..

All these formats can be converted to digital so you can view, share, and enjoy your memories. Convert your home movies and photos as soon as possible to avoid possible degradation and fading.

How Long will my old Home Movies & Photos Last?

Your home movies and photos will not last forever until they are digitized. Once digitized, you will not need to worry about it anymore, as those memories will be preserved forever. Each media type has a specific lifespan and it can vary based on how they were stored:

  • VHS Tapes: Quality starts to degrade after 25 years, especially if not stored in a cool, dry place.
  • Camcorder Tapes: Start to degrade after 25-30 years.
  • Photos: Highly depends on how they were stored, but photos generally start fading after 30 years if not stored properly.
  • Film: Film has a good lifespan and can last nearly 50 years if stored properly. However, film is very prone to degradation if not stored properly.
  • Audio: Cassettes and reel-to-reel can last 30+ years until they start to experience quality issues.
  • Discs: Surprisingly, burned discs such as CDs, DVDs, and MiniDVDs do not last long unless a very high-quality disc was used, which is rare. Most discs only last 20 years and then they start to experience corruption issues, which can make the disc unreadable. If you have discs filled with home movies and photos, we strongly recommend digitizing them very soon.

Fortunately, our technology can digitize all the above to a high-quality, even if there is some quality degradation.
